Title |
Early Medieval Anglo Saxon Sleeve Clasp |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon sleeve clasp. The hook-piece is of Hines’s Form B20 (plate and bar cast in one). The bar is divided into three rectangular panels with two sets of three transverse grooves in between each panel. The top panel is missing, but the other two are decorated with a border of punched dots. The plate is slightly lower, and consists of the remains of three incomplete pointed lugs, two of which have the remains of a sewing hole. It is possible that all three of the lugs had sewing holes, but the upper lug is missing. The edges of the lugs are decorated with the same border of punched dots found in the panels. At the opposite side to the sewing hole plate, is another lower plate with an incomplete rectangular hook. The length is 27.4mm, the width is 12.2mm and the weight is 1.82g. |
