Title |
Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon Sleeve Clasp |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete, worn and corroded copper-alloy Early Medieval sleeve (wrist) clasp likely dating to the c. 6th century AD. This artefact is formed of a rectangular in plan sheet of copper-alloy, which has been hammered flat, but is missing slight additional width that would have contained two piercings for attachment. Two rows of circular repousse indentations have been created at the exterior edges of this piece, with 8 indentations on one side and 6 on the other. These have resulted in the impression of the indentation on the underside. This artefact has a green colour and very similar examples can be found in MacGregor and Bolick (1993:176), particularly figs 29.4-29.8. |
