||
Description |
English: A fragment of a cast copper-alloy square headed brooch head, John Hines has commented that the fragment is an interesting and relatively important piece. It's a fragment of the headplate of a group IX great square-headed brooch: not a very populous group but of considerable importance in the genealogy of Great Square Headed Brooch design in East Anglia (Hines pers comm 2008). The fragment is very worn with pale green active corrosive products. Measuring 36.66mm by 33.25mm in size. The front face is decorated with a central stylised possible horse-head, with bulbous eyes, surrounding this are rectangular panels of intricate chipcarving, there are traces of gilding. On the back face there is the remains of a pin loop. |
