Title
Early-medieval strap fitting: Cheek piece
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy Anglo-Scandiniavian cheekpiece dating to the 11th century. The cheekpiece is shaped like an elongated triangle, with a long, slightly tapered projection that terminates in a rounded knop. The opposite end is triangular but has broken across the hole where the cheekpiece would have attached to the strap and bit. This cheeck piece does not appear to have any decoration on the surviving parts, but other examples are usually decorated in scrolled or floral designs. The reverse of the cheekpiece is flat and plain. Williams (2007) Type 2.
