Title |
Early-medieval strap end: Strap end |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy strap end of the Early-medieval period. The strap end fits into Thomas's (2003) Class A Type 1, having a split end and zoomorphic terminal and central decorative panel in the Trewhiddle style. The strap end is quite worn making any recognition of detail difficult; an intertwined beast appears to decorate the main panel but further detail cannot be distinguished. The rounded zoomorphic terminal is very worn, and the opposite split-end terminal is broken where it narrows to take the rivet holes. This is a common type of decoration on strap ends and is a classic 9th century style (Thomas 2003:2). |
