Title
Early-medieval : Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy cruciform brooch of Early-Medieval date. The headplate is square with a sub-rectangular projection to the left side and worn breaks to the top and right side. An integral bow projects from the lower edge of the headplate and is D-shaped in section and steeply arched. Transverse mouldings are present at the top and bottom of the arch. A spatulate foot extends from the base of the brooch and appears undecorated. A complete curved catchplate extends from the reverse of the lower bow and a single lug remains on the reverse of the head through which the pin (now missing) would have been hinged.

The metal has a dark reddish-brown patina and is worn. The brooch is 69.4mm long, 19.9mm wide, 4.2mm thick and weighs 11.5g.
