Title
Early-Medieval : Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete Early Medieval small long brooch, dating to the period c.AD 400-520. The brooch comprises only the foot and part of the bow, as the rest is missing due to a worn break. The sides of the bow narrow to the foot. Decoration on the bow consists of three ring and dot motifs, two placed side by side at the upper terminal, and one placed centrally above the foot. A moulded transverse line delineates the bow from the foot, and the foot is decorated with an incised triangle. The reverse is undecorated, but exhibits a longitudinal trapezoidal projection at its centre which forms the catchplate. This has a worn break along its apex. A green patina is on the surface.

The brooch measures 24.48mm in length, 7.46mm in width, 6mm in thickness including the catchplate, 1.98mm at its thinnest and weighs 1.7g.
