Title
ESS-8F30B2 Roman buckle frame
Description
English: Late Roman (300-500AD) cast copper alloy buckle frame of Hawkes and Dunning Type IIA. The frame is incomplete, with approximately two thirds surviving. The frame is 'D' shaped with a triangular cross section - the inner edge of the frame being thicker, and tapering towards the outer edge. The inner edge has inwards curving terminal with a moulded bar below. The bar has been recessed just before the break, and this gap would have accommodated the pin. There is a perpendicular loop on the bar, which would have hinged the buckle frame to a plate. The frame is 38.52mm long, 33.41mm wide, 4.86mm thick and weighs 8.53 grams.
