Title
ESS-6CDE31 Roman buckle (fragment)
Description
English: Incomplete Roman (4th century) cast copper alloy buckle frame of Hawkes and Dunning Type IIA. Just under half of the buckle frame survives. There is a rectangular bar with a deep groove along its length. There is a incomplete hinge projection on one side, and two curved arms projecting from the other, forming part of the frame. The main projecting arm has a step in the frame, while the smaller arm curves towards the larger; the other half of the frame would have been symmetrical, forming a 'heart-like' design. It is 29.01mm long, 18.15mm wide, 4.93mm thick and weighs 4.66 grams. It has a mid-green patina. The breaks are worn, however the break across the hinge is more recent.
