Title |
ESS-069D23 Roman buckle plate |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete Roman copper alloy buckle plate, probably of Simpson group 1 or 2. It is comprised of two sheets of copper alloy, held together by three rivets. The upper sheet is damaged and incomplete, with a worn break where the hinge for the buckle frame should be located. It is sub-rectangular with a curved terminal. There is an incised line running parallel to the edge of the sheet, and the surface is covered with small ring-and-dot motifs. There are two copper alloy rivets towards the frame end, and one at the terminal. Each rivet has a bulbus head and a cylindrical shank. The lower sheet is rectangular and undecorated. It is mm long, mm wide, mm thick and weighs 5.02 grams. |
