Summary
[edit]DescriptionEISCAT Svalbard radar 01.jpg |
The EISCAT Svalbard radars are located on the Breinosa mountain near Longyearbyen and operate in the 500 MHz band with a peak transmitter power of 1 MW. In addition to a fully steerable parabolic dish antenna of 32 m diameter the facility has a fixed field aligned antenna of 42 m diameter, which is seen in this photo. The basic data measured with the incoherent scatter radar technique are profiles of electron density, electron and ion temperature, and ion velocity throughout Earth's atmosphere. |
