These Copernicus Sentinel-2 images from 2023 and 2024 show the difference in the amount of water in the Cogotí Reservoir.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: In Chile, the Cogotí Reservoir used to be one of the main sources of water supply for the Coquimbo region. Now, the area is in the midst of one of the worst droughts in the last 15 years, which has resulted in most of the reservoir drying up. The lack of water affects mining production and agricultural irrigation in the region. These Copernicus Sentinel-2 images from 2023 and 2024 show the difference in the amount of water in the Cogotí Reservoir. Open data acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel satellites provide key information that is useful for accurately mapping bodies of water and extracting important information during periods of drought.
