Description |
English: The Dutch emissaries took gifts to the court of the Shogun, Japan’s military ruler. In the first half of the 18th century, various animals were taken to Edo, including hounds, Persian horses, birds, dromedaries and even an elephant. Most of these animals then became pets or served as attractions. This picture features a dromedary. |
