Summary
[edit]DescriptionDrawing of Egyptianising Corinthian Capital from Alexandria.png |
English: Drawing of the so-called Schiess capital (alt. spelling Schieß) found near the Hospital Hill in Alexandria, Egypt, around 1898. Named for hospital director Dr Johannes Schiess. It's a Corinthian capital of the Alexandrian Type I featuring Egyptian motifs like papyrus plants, uraei and winged sun disks. The lower row of acanthus leaves is replaced with Egyptian water lilies. It is generally dated to the Hellenistic period. The original capital is now at the Graeco-Roman Museum in Alexandria. |
