English: Vertical rectangle. Design for parts of a coach more probably of Pope Gregory XVI (1831-1846) than Pope Pius IX (1846-1878). Profile view of the side of the body opposite the entrance side. In the center of the frieze, papal escutcheon. Three windows with angels as caryatids upon columns at the frame. Below, a frieze with putti supporting garlands, as written at right: "fondo cremisi con ornat/ putti di relievo dorati." [crimson background with ornaments/ guilded cherubs relief] Below sitting- "Figure dispinte in fondo d'oro." [figures painted on gilded background.] Religion or Faith with Tiara, a nimbus of rays, the cross and chalice and Host, between Strength at left, Wisdom with the mirror at right. At the sides one flying angel with a tablet is drawn. The papal throne is visible. Beside the frieze is written: "fondo cremisi." [crimson background] Below the scale: "Palmi sette Romani." [Romans seven palms] |
