| Description |
English: A U.S. Navy Douglas A-1J Skyraider (BuNo 142059) of Attack Squadron 165 (VA-165) "Boomers" in flight, circa in 1963. VA-165 was assigned to Attack Carrier Air Wing 16 (CVW-16) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CVA-34) for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 1 August 1963 to 10 March 1964. 142059 was later transferred to the U.S. Air Force as s/n 52-142059. It served with the 6th Air Commando Squadron, 14th Air Commando Wing, and was shot down near Chu Lai, Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam on 7 May 1968. The pilot bailed out and was rescued by a U.S. Army helicopter. |
