Title |
double-looped asymmetrical buckle |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy double loop asymmetrical spur or shoe buckle frame. The frame has a flat base and a convex profile in cross-section. The shape of the frame is sub-rectangular and it has a simple, central, narrowed strap bar, flush with the frame. The pin is missing, together with any plate or strap. The rectangular loop has a trefoil shaped outer edge with a single transverse moulded groove. The rounded end of the frame has four engraved oblique lines on the outside edge of the frame where the pin would have rested, but there is no notch. Whitehead (1996) illustrates a very similar example on page 91, no.572, which he dates to c.1575-1700.Read (1995) illustrates another similar example on p. 141, No.891, which he dates to c.1600-1700. |
