Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Primitive Methodist meeting at Donington, Lincolnshire, England, c.1900-1910, at the junction of Station Road and Church Road. Photograph possibly taken from the Black Bull public house. These events were common in English villages the day after a particular Sunday church service, and were red letter days in the Methodist calendar. Children and adults grouped separately, sang hymns, and were accompanied by bands, banners and tableau. Often this ended at a location, perhaps a local farm or significant business, where the children would sit for a special tea. The aim was to collect donations to support the work of local Methodism.
