Dolphin brooch with missing wing
Description
English: Roman brooch; Fragment of cast copper alloy dolphin brooch, dated to the 1st century. The fragment consists of the complete bow and one wing. The pin, foot, catchplate and other wing are missing. The remaining wing is a simple, plain cylinder which tapers towards its end. The bow tapers to a point at the bottom and has been bend out of shape. There is an indication of a decorative incised line down the centre of the bow, but this is indistinct. The whole is very worn and has a thick, pale green patina. Length 34.91mm, width (top) 18.47mm, width (bow) 7.63mm, width (foot) 1.98mm, thickness (wing) 5.17mm, weight 7.99g
