Notes Girl doll with composite head, cloth body, arms and legs, that belonged to Pat Coster, when she was aged c. 5 years old, early 1940s. It is a wartime doll of poorer quality material. Pat says that she never played much with her dolls, as they never 'measured up'. Her mother had owned a beautiful French wax doll (whose eyes had fallen out from being left in the sun), while other friends had wonderful pre-war celluloid dolls. Pat looked at her own dolls and passed judgement on them. she believes their condition is probably more due to their poor quality than a result of over-handling. Other dolls owned by Pat include two other composite dolls, also in the collection, a Red Indian doll sent by her father when he trained in Canada with the RNZAF during WW2, and a brown velvet doll which was passed down to her.
