Description
English: Divine face by Alonso López de Herrera. He was born in Mexico City, was baptized on February 24, 1579, the son of Juan López de Herrera and Magdalena López. Alonso López de Herrera practiced his art in Mexico City and Puebla, although Don Manuel Toussaint believes that perhaps his work exists in Morelia and Oaxaca. In 1610 he entered the order of Santo Domingo. The exact date of his death is not known, but it must be around 1654. His work is characterized by warm tones and perfection in drawing. Among his works we find: the Portrait of Archbishop Fray García Guerra, his first work, dated 1609, and which is in the National Museum, La santa face (1610-1620, School of Plastic Arts), El divino rostro (1643, Cathedral of Mexico), Saint Thomas Aquinas (1610-1620, Col. Romero de Terreros).
Español: Divine face by Alonso López de Herrera. Nació en la ciudad de México, fue bautizado el 24 de febrero de 1579, hijo de Juan López de Herrera y de Magdalena López. Alonso López de Herrera ejerció su arte en la ciudad de México y Puebla, aunque don Manuel Toussaint opina que quizás exista obra suya en Morelia y Oaxaca. En 1610 ingresó en la orden de Santo Domingo. No se sabe la fecha exacta de su fallecimiento pero debió ser cerca de 1654. Su obra se caracteriza por los tonos cálidos y la perfección en el dibujo. Entre sus obras encontramos: el Retrato del arzobispo fray García Guerra, su primer obra, fechada en 1609, y que se encuentra en el Museo Nacional, La santa faz (1610-1620, Escuela de Artes Plásticas), El divino rostro (1643, catedral de México), Santo Tomás de Aquino (1610-1620, col. Romero de Terreros).
