English: Brazilian media tour the flight deck of the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), Aug. 6, 2014. The media saw several static displays hosted by Marines with Special Purpose Marines Air Ground Task Force South, showcasing the capabilities SPMAGTF-South brings to the Ship. The tour was concluded by a press conference with Rear Adm. Frank L. Ponds, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Three, and the ship’s command staff. America is currently on her maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas.” The transit aims to demonstrate the capabilities that the Navy-Marine Corps team brings to our nation and partners, and to further the bond between the U.S. and Brazil. America is scheduled to be commissioned in San Francisco, Oct. 11. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Christopher J. Moore/Released) |
