Summary
[edit]DescriptionDiffraction Halo at Sunset.jpg |
The diffraction of sunlight by trees at Sunset, forming this colors of rainbow. No: this beautiful corona is the result of diffraction of sunlight by tiny droplets in the air. Tree leaves are much too large to produce a visible diffraction pattern, and much too irregular to produce sharp colors. The droplet population has to be extremely homogeneous in size. No, no: coronae due to diffraction by tiny droplets in the air show a different sequence of colours. The most probable explanation is that the front lens of the camera was misted, see http://www.itp.uni-hannover.de/~zawischa/ITP/strange.html#dewcorona |
