inscribed on the books of theHaarlem Guild in 1610. He was the father ofPieter Cornelisz Verbeeck. VERBEECK, FRANgois Xavier Henri, a Flemishmilitary painter, was born at Antwerp in 1686. Hismaster was P. Casteels, whose daughter he after-wards married. He was received into the Guild ofS. Luke in 1709, and from 1741 to 1747 was deanof the Fraternity, and one of the Directors ofthe Antwerp Academy. He had two daughters,Elizabeth (b. 1720) and Anne (b. 1727), whobecame artists, and were his pupils. He died in1755. There is by him : Antwerp. Museum. State visit to the Serment dePEscrime. 1713. VERBEECK, Frans, a painter of Mechlin in the16th century, was a pupil of Frans Minnebroer.He painted Scriptural scenes, peasants marriages,&c, in the style of Jerom Bos, but in distemper.He became free of the Guild of S. He took part in the decorative worksfor the entry of Albert and Isabella into Mechlinin 1599, and was granted the title of painter totheir Highnesses. He was still living in 1619. VERBEECK, Pieter Cobnelisz, a painter andetcher of Haarlem, born probably about 1599,was the son of one Cobnelis Verbeeck. Heentered the Guild at Alkmaar in 1635, and becamea master at the Hague in 1645. The subjects ofhis pictures were tavern scenes, cavalry combats,halts of travellers, hunting parties, landscapes, &c.He has also left drawings in chalk and Indian ink,and eight plates (1619-39) etched in the style ofRembrandt. Pictures by him are in the Museumsof Berlin, Cassel, and Stockholm. Brulliot describesa print of A Shepherd standing, signed P. C- Ver-beecq, and dated 1639.
