Description
English: An adult specimen of the San arrow poison beetle Diamphidia nigroornata photographed by user Fritz Geller Grimm. A new version of the image cropped, brightened and oriented vertically by user Flobbadob, the better to show detailed anatomy and attractive colouration and furthermore to make apparently dead specimen appear more lifelike.

The extremely toxic larvae and pupae of this beetle species have for many centuries been used by certain peoples of Southern Africa to prepare poisoned arrows for use in hunting.

D. nigroornata contains, when in its pre-adult stages, the deadly haemolytic poison diamphotoxin which can prove lethal when absorbed into the bloodstream from a wound.
