Description
English: Descriptive plaque from Bantayan, reads: RUINS of HERITAGE HOUSES

(Heritage Landmark) The ruins of these heritage houses are the remnants of what used to be the grandest homes in the island of Bantayan. They were called Casa de teja (house whose roof was made of brock tiles) and was thus known as the Balay na Tisa. Built by Don Manuel Rubio y del Rosario 1836, it was used as the Casa de Mamposteria (House of Masons) as Don Manuel Rubio was also then the Maestro de Obra (today's equivalent of a building contractor) of the construction of the parish church. Don Manuel "Kapitan Tawi" Rubio was the nephew of Padre Doroteo Andrade del Rosario, the parish priest who initiated and finished the construction of the church as it is today. Don Manuel Rubi sired three children: Don Benigno Causing (with an unidentified Causing lady from Barrotac Viejo, Capiz) who later became Bantayan's first Justice of the Peace (Juez de la Paz); and Don Francisco Rubio y Maderazo and Doña Maria Rubio y Maderazo (with Doña Barbara "Kapitana Baray" Maderazo). The house to the right was the wedding gift of Don Manuel and Doña Barbara Rubio to their daughter Doña Maria Rubio when she got married to Don Margarito Escario, an influential scion of a principalia and illustrado family at that time.

The main house was inherited by their other son Don Francisco Rubio who married the Cuban Señora Doña Titon Uriarte, sister of the mother of Señora Doña Maria Clara Lobregat, the late mayor and congresswoman of Zamboanga.
