Summary
[edit]DescriptionDerwentcote Steel Furnace - geograph.org.uk - 1170142.jpg |
English: Derwentcote Steel Furnace This is a furnace for producing steel by the cementation process - an old and inefficient process. It was Bessemer who revolutionised steel production and turned it from a highly prized commodity for special applications to a staple material of modern engineering. This may seem pleasantly rural but until recently this was a heavily industrialised area and there was a major cokeworks close by until the 1980s. |
