Critically Endangered (IUCN 2.3) species of plant endemic to the Juan Fernandez Islands of Insular Chile. The plant has been singled out in the Temperate House at Kew Gardens as a species of particular interest, meriting not merely a label, but also a small display, including a map showing its range and information concerning the history of its cultivation at Kew and the Wakehurst Place garden of the Royal Horticultural Society of the UK.
