English: The American 1814 warship Demologos (also called Fulton I). 19th century lithography. This was the world's first steam powered warship known also as Fulton Steam Frigate, the Steam Battery, and Fulton the First. Robert Fulton designed it as a catamaran with the paddlewheel placed between the hulls so that it would be protected from cannon fire. It was 150 feet long, 60 feet wide, with an armor belt of timber 5 feet thick protecting its gundeck. |
