The camera club I am a member of is running a portfolio this year. I enthusiasticaly agreed to go along to the meeting not really sure what to expect. A portfolio is more like a personal project where you take a series of images over a set amount of time to present an idea / theme. It is not a competition, more an exercise in personal growth and the chance to explore your own idea within a comfortable group environment where help and support are close at hand. I came away from the first meeting with SO many ideas it was a little bit insane, I had these grand ideas of trying to explore complicated themes and words that would involve going out every weekend, models, studio lighting, dragging chairs around beaches... etc.

After a little while I realised that I may have been a little bit over ambitious with my original ideas so the direction I am currently heading in can be seen above. I am looking at exploring flowers with some almost high-key lighting effects and macro images. Firstly this will help me improve my understanding of lighting, which lets be honest is a complicated subject. Also this may sound funny but I wanted to shoot something pretty, I swing fairly heavily in favouring B&W processing for anything that's not a seascape (even those I like to convert). I wanted to shoot something that would be easily accesible to me (important for actually completing the portfolio) and that I find interesting. I would like this to be a study in shape, form, detail and colour. This is the first image I have taken and I'm not sure how I feel about it though there is definitely room for improvement :P
