Description
English: An ice core sample containing rock and other materials that have not seen sunlight for hundreds of thousands of years waits to be packaged for research, Greenland, July 27, 2010. Scientists at the North Greenland Eemian Ice Drilling site announced the historical significance of hitting bedrock at the depth 8,324 feet. The Eemian is the last interglacial period, when Greenland’s climate was warmer than today. Scientists hope to learn more about the warm Eemian climate period from the samples in the ice core.
