t, (dat is het bezinksel,hetwelk ontstaan is bij vroegere wasschingen van witte garens met helder water), na te voreneerst gedurende eenige dagen met aftreksel van gebrande rijststengels, waarin den eersten dagbovendien een weinig ka tj ang-olie (zie blz. 140) is gedaan, gewasschen te zijn.De z.g. bibit is een vuilgrijze, onaangenaam riekende, breiachtige massa, welke zeer langbewaard, altijd weer opnieuw gebruikt en met het bezinksel van nieuwe wasschingen van garensinbanjoelanda of m ë r a n g-water en katj an g-olie (zie blz. 63) aangevuld wordt.Zoo verklaarden eenige garenververs, mannen van meer dan 50 jaar oud, de bibit reeds vanhun vader ontvangen te hebben, die ze weer van zijn vader had, enz. Met de z.g. bibit voert men dezelfde bewerking van het n g ë t è 11 i uit, eigenlijk niet anders, dande garens aantastbaar maken voor de toegepaste verfstof. De bibit verricht de functie van dekatj angolie, (zie blz. 63), waardoor men dus minder van laatstgenoemde stof noodig heelt.64

Na aldus met bibit te zijn behandeld, worden de garens gedroogd, en tegen den avondingewreven met aftreksel van gebrande rijststengels, waarbij een kopje katjangolie (zie blz,63) is gevoegd. s Morgens wordt het garen gedroogd, daarna weer ingewreven met mërangwater en weergedroogd, s Avonds wordt het weer ingewreven met mërangwater, enz. en zoo tien dagenlang. Daarna wordt het garen uitgewasschen met helder water. Dit waschwater nu wordt zorgvuldig bewaard en daaruit zet zich de hierbovengenoemde bibitaf. Eindelijk worden de garens nog twee malen gewasschen en gedroogd, waarna men ze ineen mengsel van fijngestampte mengkoedoe en djirëkbast (zje blz. 62) en lauw waterdompelt, waarin ze twee nachten blijven liggen. Na wassching en droging doet men ze opnieuw in de verfkuip, onder toevoeging weer vanmengkoedoe (voor elke twee go 1 èks één batok). Weer blijven de garens twee nachten in de verfkuip, waardoor ze
