Plaat 20. OUDE BATIK VAN CHERIBON.Patroon : ganggamina. (Zie blz. 220.) de naam aanduidt, wolkenstoeten voor, welke in dikke lijnen op indigoblauw fond zijn weerge-geven. Klaar is in het patroon de imitatie van de Oud-Hindoesche schildertechniek te zien, doortoepassing waarvan de in oude tijden zoo gewilde „indiennes of „étoiles peintes werden ver-kregen, en welke nu nog op Bali voortbestaat. Immers, de lijnen zijn opgebouwd uit naast elkaargezette penseelstreken: naast het strookje wit, een lichtrood streepje en hiernaast het donker-rood, het donkerblauw, het lichtblauw, aangevende dus minstens twee nuancen van een kleur.Was b.v. het donkerblauw aangestreken langs een bepaalde lijn, dan werd het penseel even inwater gedoopt en kon dus naast de donkerblauwe streep een lichtblauwe geplaatst worden.Precies zoo wordt nog op Bali gewerkt en zoo zijn door de batiktechniek de wolkfiguren vanhet oud-Cheribonsche sultansmotief weergegeven. Zulk een directe nuanceering van kleurenontbreek
