Title |
David and Catherine Maynard home, ca. 1852 |
||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
Transcribed from image: "Early Home of Mrs. D.S. [Catherine] Maynard. Built by Dr. D[avid] S. Maynard in 1852 on the corner of Commercial [later 1st Ave. S.] and Main St. and occupied by him with the first store. It was also the first place of residence of himself and wife. First election in King County was held there, and first Court of Justice of the Peace." Seattle Public Libraries credits this to Theodore E. Peiser, but given that he was a photographer, not a sketch artist, and that the sketch shows the initials "F.S.C.", that seems very unlikely. |
