Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pottery Sculptures Of Dogs. Northern Wei. Datong City Museum

These glazed pottery dogs belong to a set of paired animals that includes pigs, sheep, and other domesticates. The dogs are splendidly observed, and rendered with outstanding fidelity as to skin, musculature, and expression. Working dogs like this would have been important in the nomadic culture of the Tuoba Wei, and valued companions in the afterlife.
