Description

Daphoenus felinus Scott, 1898 - fossil mammal skull from the Middle Oligocene of Nebraska, USA. (CM 492, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA)

This species is considered by some to be a junior synonym of Daphoenus vetus.

From museum signage: "This giant bear-dog, although distantly related to modern dogs, was more like a bear in its habits."

Locality: Cedar Creek area, Hat Creek Basin, Sioux County, northwestern Nebraska, USA
