The Danaid Eggfly shows female-limited mimetic polymorphism in Batesian mimicry. Here the two different forms of Danaid Eggfly Females are shown. The top one is in more common form ,known as Misippus form The second one is known as Inaria ,shown below in comments of this picture In short, they both are Danaid Eggfly (females) but in different forms. They show female-limited polymorphism in Batesian mimicry. Hypolimnas misippus: across western India and Africa, males are monomorphic and nonmimetic whereas females are trimorphic, each mimicking a different form of the model, Danaus chrysippus. There are no male-like nonmimetic females in this species (Ford 1975; Smith 1984; Wynter-Blyth 1957). |
