Description The U.S. Navy Northampton-class heavy cruiser USS Chicago (CA-29) in a drydock at the Cockatoo Island dockyard, Sydney, Australia. She clearly shows the torpedo damage in the bow that she received during the "Battle of Savo" on 9 August 1942. At 01:47, a torpedo, probably from the Japanese cruiser Kako, had hit Chicago’s bow.
