Description

202 323-2 on a two carriage train, 530m above sea level at Rebesgrün near Auerbach Oberer Bahnhof. Deutsche Reichsbahn KBS 444, the pre-war KBS 171n and the DB KBS 539.. In GDR times (and possibly at the time of this photograph) the only passenger trains on this line were infrequent "Personenzüge" between Herlasgrün and Falkenstein. Two railways ran parallel in the vicinity of Auerbach, joining south of that Vogtland town en route to Klingenthal or Adorf (KBS 443) which had a greater density of services. The other, easterly route, closer to Auerbach, arrived from Zwickau at the Lower Station. The Oberer Bahnhof route is now known as VB 5 of the Vogtlandbahn on services between Hof, Bavaria and Adorf, Vogtland via Plauen, whilst the Unterer Bahnhof is served by VB 1 from Zwickau to Klingenthal, and extended into the Czech Repubic at Kraslice (Graslitz). Trains used have been RegioSprinter railcars, and latterly Desiro Classic units.

The two carriage train would have crossed over the Jocketa Viaduct before branching off the main Plauen-Zwickau line. A map of the Vogtlandbahn may be found here by clicking on the ACTUELLE STRECKENNETZ link A privatised company based in Bavaria under the group REGENTALBAHN, Arriva now owns it 100 per cent.
