Deutsch: Die letzte Version des westfälischen Wappens wurde durch das preußische Staatsministerium des Inneren am 8. Juni 1929 genehmigt (erstmalig am 28. Februar 1881). Das westfälische Wappen hat eine alte Tradition. Seit 1469 erscheint das Ross auf Münzen und seit 1519 im Wappen der Kölner Erzbischöfe, die damit ihre Stellung und ihre Rechte als Herzöge von Westfalen zum Ausdruck brachten. Nach 1881 führte die preußische Provinz Westfalen das Wappen des alten Kölnischen Herzogtums Westfalen als Provinzialwappen bis 1918 mit dem damals üblichen Beiwerk. 1918 entfiel auch die Helmzier.
