Der Löwe symbolisiert die diversen Wappenlöwen in diesem Gebiet; Nassau, Katzenelnbogenund die Landgrafschaft Hessen-Darmstadt. Die neun goldenen Felder des Schilbordes stehen für die Anzahl der Mitgliedsgemeinden.
