Object history
Deutsch: Die Gemeinde Sondheim v. d. Rhön besteht seit 1978 aus den ehemals selbstständigen Gemeinden Sondheim und Stetten. Das Wappen geht auf die Geschichte beider Orte ein. Der geschachte Schildfuß erinnert an die Grafen von Henneberg, die seit dem 13. Jahrhundert im Gemeindegebiet belegt sind. Der Bocksrumpf ist in veränderter Farbgebung dem Wappen der Herren von Gebsattel entnommen, die im Gemeindegebiet mit bedeutendem Grundbesitz belegt sind. Der sächsische Rautenkranz weist auf die Landesherrschaft der Herzöge von Sachsen hin. Nach 1918 gehörte das Gemeindegebiet zu Thüringen; als Exklave kam es nach 1945 zu Bayern.
