Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde der damaligen Gemeinde (Stadtrechte 2. März 1953) am 7. September 1937 durch den Oberpräsidenten Westfalens verliehen. Der Schrägbalken entstammt dem Wappen der Herren von Oer. Schlägel und Eisen erinnern an den früheren Bergbau in der Stadt. Das Eichenblatt ist als Sinnbild für die Land- und Forstwirtschaft gedacht.
English: The arms were granted on September 7, 1937. They show the bend pily from the arms of the Lords of Oer. Hammer and pick symbolise the former coal mining; the aok leave stands for agriculture und forestry in the area. |
