Object history |
Deutsch: Leuthen war seit 1411 im Besitz der Markgrafen von Meißen, im gleichen Jahr wurde der Ort zum Markt erhoben. 1415 kam Leuthen an die Burggrafen von Nürnberg. Aus dem Jahr 1477 ist der Abdruck eines Siegels überliefert, das um 1430 entstanden ist. Im Schild stehen der ungekrönte Löwe und die zwei gekrönten Schlangen. Der Löwe weist auf die Burggrafen von Nürnberg, die Bedeutung der beiden Schlangen ist nicht geklärt. Die Sage um einen Otterkönig, die in Verbindung mit den Schlangen in dem Wappen gebracht wird, taucht erst viel später auf. Aus dem späten 16. Jahrhundert ist ein Siegel überliefert mit einem ganz anderen Wappen. Es trägt die Umschrift SIGILLVM CIVITATIS MARCKLEITENENSIS. Im gevierten Schild steht in 1 und 4 der linksschauende brandenburgische Adler, in 2 und 3 auf schräg gegittertem Boden ein schreitender Löwe. Spätere Siegel sowie Abbildungen von 1692 und 1767 zeigen wieder das ältere Wappenbild. Die Farben sind seit 1812 festgelegt. Seit 1829 heißt der Ort Marktleuthen. 1954 wurde Marktleuthen Stadt. |
