Object history

Landesgeschichtlich zählt Auw an der Kyll bis zur Französischen Revolution zur Herrschaft Scharfbillig im Herzogtum Luxemburg.

Hinweis darauf sind die Feldfarben Weiß und Blau. Ortsgeschichtlich sind die späteren Grafen von Kesselstatt Besitzer des Ortes. Ihr Wappenzeichen, in Silber ein roter Drache, steht als Symbol für den ehemaligen Grundherrn. Von Bedeutung ist die Ortssage der drei Jungfrauen von Auw. Ihr Symbol sind drei Lilien. Auw ist aber auch alter Marienwallfahrtsort. Symbol der Jungfrau Maria ist ebenfalls die Lilie. Im zweiten Feld des Wappens ist daher die silberne Lilie aufgenommen.
