English: Pedro Serrano is the Spanish patriot who, on the 2nd of May 1808, took the famous "Bando de los Alcaldes" issued in Móstoles by Andrés Torrejón and Simón Hernández all the way to Badajoz, having it read and copied all along the way at staging posts. The message he carried is traditionally condensed into : " La Patria está en peligro ; Madrid parece victima de la perfidia francesa. ¡ Españoles, acudid a salvarla ! " |
