The Clapp Building was built from December 1900 to early 1901 by Port Townsend capitalist Cyrus F. Clapp (Builder of of the 1885 Clapp Building there) to serve as a hotel, initially the Ferguson House. It was designed by the obscure Seattle architectural firm of McManus & Walker in a unique Greco-Roman style. It would later be known as the States Hotel and be expanded to 5 floors before being demolished in the late 1970s for w:1111 Third Avenue.
