New construction on the former "Cuvrybrache", Cuvrystraße 50-51, Berlin Kreuzberg-Friedrichshain.

Summary

[edit]
Description

English: The site was largely vacant after World War II during which there was a bomb shelter on the lot at Cuvrystr. 50-51, Berlin-Kreuzbert-Friedrichshain.

In the 1990s the YAAM (Young African Art Market) used the site, after which the property changed owners several times but no construction took place. During this period a shanty town developed here where day laborers, people with low incomes and artist lived. In 2019 high-end apartments and offices are being built here in an architectural style that intended to be reminiscent of docks, the "Neue Spreespeicher" (Eng.: New Spree Warehouses).

Local citizens action groups have expressed criticisms of the project.
