Transcript InfoField | The Graves of the Clans are situated on Culloden Moor about five miles from Inverness. Here on April 16, 1746, was fought the short but decisive battle of Culloden, the scene of the conflict being marked by a cairn 20 feet high and 18 feet in diameter, the inscription recording that the small cairns in the vicinity indicate the burial places of the dead of the various clans according to the names inscribed thereon. The stone in the immediate foreground of the picture is the monument to the dead of the Clans of Macgillivray, Maclean, Machlachlan, and Atholl Highlanders. |
