English: Cuirass of a warrior - Baru oröba
Culture: Nias Origin: Southeast Asia: Insular / Indonesia / Sumatera / Sumatera Utara (province) / Nias Islands / Nias (island) / Nias Selatan (regency) before 1931 49.7 x 36 x 22.9cm (19 9/16 x 14 3/16 x 9in.) A textile jacket with long sleeves was worn under the cuirass. The circular ornaments are to protect the neck. Cuirasses were made of different materials: carabao leather, crocodile or anteater skin and rope. No cuirass made entirely of tin was found in the literature, but tin was found in combination with carabao leather. Manufacture Helmets and cuirasses were made on Nias from iron tin, and petroleum cans were also used for this purpose. The tinwork was often colored partly black, partly yellow. The latter is possible to make it resemble the color gold. Inventory number: TM-6402-1a Material: tin (material) canning painting (image production) paint Literature references: E.E.W.Gs.
